I found an old encyclopedia in a book stall on the side of the road in Chennai, India, a couple years ago. It was just before Covid really devastated the country. This map is taken from a Life World Library encyclopedia, specifically the France edition, published in New York in 1960. The pages of this book have all sorts of little holes from bookworms. I really love the idea that the encyclopedia was published in the states, made its way to India, then journeyed back with me to Quito, Ecuador (not before it came back with me to Vietnam, where I had been living at the time I took that trip) to be reused and transformed into a work of art. Where will this piece end up?
